BEBRAS UNUD
Bebras Bureau of Udayana University
The Informatics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, actively contributes to strengthening Computational Thinking in Bali through the Bebras Bureau of Udayana University as part of the Bebras Indonesia network.
About Bebras and Computational Thinking
In today’s digital era, computers and information technology have become increasingly integrated into various aspects of life. Therefore, Computational Thinking has become one of the essential skills that should be mastered by 21st-century learners. Computational Thinking trains individuals to think systematically, logically, critically, and creatively in solving problems.
The growing awareness of the importance of Computational Thinking has encouraged the development of the Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge, an international initiative aimed at introducing and strengthening computational thinking skills from school age. Bebras Challenge has been participated in by millions of students from many countries and has become part of a global movement to strengthen informatics education.
The Role of the Informatics Study Program
The Informatics Study Program of FMIPA Udayana University has a strong commitment to developing computational thinking skills, particularly at the primary and secondary education levels. Through its involvement in Bebras Indonesia, the Study Program contributes to broadening the understanding of teachers and students regarding Informatics as a scientific discipline, not merely as the ability to use digital tools.
The Bebras Bureau of Udayana University was established in 2016 and serves as a platform for the Informatics Study Program to support training, mentoring, and the implementation of Bebras Challenge activities in Bali. This initiative reflects the Study Program’s contribution to improving digital literacy, problem-solving skills, and the readiness of young generations to face technological development.
Strengthening Computational Thinking
Introducing computational thinking as a foundation for solving problems logically, creatively, and systematically.
Teacher and Student Training
Conducting workshops and mentoring activities for teachers and students to understand the basic concepts of Informatics and Computational Thinking.
Educational Collaboration
Connecting higher education, schools, government institutions, and communities in the development of Informatics education.
Background of Informatics Education Strengthening
Global education development has shown a shift from ICT learning, which focuses mainly on the use of digital tools, toward Informatics education, which emphasizes scientific and conceptual foundations. Topics such as algorithms, data, programming, computing systems, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things are becoming increasingly relevant to be introduced gradually from the school level.
Indonesia has adapted this direction by reintroducing Informatics into the national curriculum. In this context, the Informatics Study Program of Udayana University plays a strategic role in supporting the Informatics education ecosystem, especially in Bali Province.
