User Interaction and Experience

User Interaction and Experience | Informatics Specialization Track

User Interaction and Experience

User Interaction and Experience Specialization Track

A specialization track focusing on interaction design, user experience, digital interfaces, interactive systems, and usability evaluation for web, mobile, game, and digital media applications.

What is User Interaction and Experience?

User Interaction and Experience is a field of Informatics that studies how users interact with digital systems and how applications can be designed to be easy to use, comfortable, effective, and aligned with user needs.

Through this specialization track, students will learn interaction design, interactive system programming, mixed reality, augmented reality, virtual reality, statistical methods for human-computer interaction, design-oriented HCI approaches, and usability testing.

Main Areas of Study

Interaction Design

Learning how to design interaction flows between users and systems so they are easier to understand and use.

User Experience

Studying how users feel, understand, and evaluate their experience when using digital products.

Interactive Systems

Learning the development of systems that allow users to interact directly through digital interfaces.

Usability Testing

Understanding evaluation methods used to assess whether a system is easy to use, efficient, and aligned with user needs.

Examples of Applications

User Interaction and Experience is essential in developing digital products that are user-centered and focused on the quality of user experience.

  • Designing interfaces for web and mobile applications.
  • Evaluating user experience in public service, education, or business applications.
  • Conducting usability testing on application prototypes.
  • Developing interactive systems for web, mobile, or game platforms.
  • Designing augmented reality and virtual reality applications.
  • Analyzing user behavior when using digital systems.
  • Developing UI/UX prototypes based on user needs.
  • Evaluating designs using statistical methods and HCI approaches.

Required Track Courses

In the User Interaction and Experience specialization track, students take six required track courses as part of their field-specific study.

No. Course Short Description
1 Interaction Design Studies principles and methods for designing interactions between users and systems to make them more effective, efficient, and easy to use.
2 Interactive System Programming Discusses the development of systems or applications that enable direct interaction between users and digital technology.
3 Mixed, Augmented, and Virtual Reality Studies the concepts and applications of mixed reality, augmented reality, and virtual reality in interactive systems.
4 Statistical Methods for Human-Computer Interaction Studies statistical methods for analyzing user data, evaluation results, and testing outcomes in human-computer interaction.
5 Design-Oriented Human-Computer Interaction Discusses design approaches for understanding user needs and creating human-centered systems.
6 Usability Testing Studies testing methods for assessing the ease of use, effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction of digital systems.
